Jonathan Lei

Jonathan is from Wuhan, a beautiful and historical place in China with lots of local foods. He moved to the US four years ago and spent two years at Bucknell University before he transferred to Cornell in Fall 2023. He is currently a Material Science & Engineering major but is fond of organic chemistry. When the pandemic happened and his high school became virtual, he stayed at home reading “The Art of Writing Organic Chemistry Mechanisms” and other organic chemistry books. At Bucknell, he worked on a drug delivery project for two years, where he tried to use electrospray to make thin films and use them to develop novel drug delivery methods. He spent his last summer at Harvard working on origins-of-life research and learned about how life could possibly emerge in icebergs, volcanos, and oceans under early-Earth atmosphere, which was quite interesting. He is excited to start doing organic chemistry now. In the future, he hopes to become an interdisciplinary scholar and combine organic chemistry, materials science, and other fields together to make positive impacts on new materials and improve sustainability. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the piano and cooking.
