Sukwoo was born in Seoul, South Korea and grew up there until he came to the US for his doctoral studies. Sukwoo received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Yonsei University, and during that time he joined the USFK 8th Army for his military service. Afterwards, he worked at the IBS Center for NanoMedicine where he synthesized various metal and magnetic nanoparticles, but eventually found his true passion in synthetic organic chemistry. So, under the supervision of Professor Sarah Yunmi Lee he developed an enantio- and diastereoselective Diels-Alder reaction utilizing a dual chiral organocatalytic system. In October 2023, he joined the Lin Lab to learn more about electrocatalysis and radical-mediated reactions. Sukwoo likes to go for a run exploring the beautiful Ithaca scenery when not in the lab or drink beer with his friends.
