Andy Ressler

B.S. Susquehanna University
Advisors: Dr. Geneive Henry and Dr. William Dougherty

Andy grew up in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania and attended Susquehanna University. Initially majoring in Music, he switched to Biochemistry after becoming fascinated by how chemical structure informs function.  His undergraduate thesis, written under the direction of Dr. Geneive Henry and Dr. William Dougherty, details the synthesis, characterization and biological activity of natural product derivatives and their metal complexes. During that time, he discovered a fluorescent zinc tetramer complex that confirmed his love of crazy complicated structures. In the Lin lab, Andy is excited to be at the forefront of the technological revolution of synthetic organic chemistry, where oil baths and reflux condensers are replaced by potentiostats and LEDs. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, reading, and listening to or composing music.
