Jinjian Liu

B.S. College of William and Mary
Advisor: William McNamara

Jinjian grew up in Wuhan, China, a major city in central China famous for its rich
historical legacy as well as being the “furnace” of the country. She went to College of
William and Mary in Virginia for undergraduate studies, where she discovered great
fun in organic chemistry and decided to become a chemist. She spent two splendid
years conducting undergraduate research in Dr. William. R. McNamara’s lab on
transition-metal catalyzed hydrogenation reactions. When she was not doing
chemistry research, she volunteered in branch-out trips to help make a local impact
and conducted research on environmental science education for elementary school
students. From all the explorations, she decided graduate school in chemistry should
be the next step. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D in chemistry in Dr. Song Lin’s
group at Cornell University. On top of chemistry, her passion also lies in Literature.
A couple of her favorite authors are Flaubert, Geling Yan, Jie Zhang, Oscar Wilde.
