Kaining was born and grew up in Shanghai, China. After finishing high school in Shanghai, she came to United States to pursue her bachelor degree with a psychology major in University of Wisconsin-Madison. She became fascinated by the magic of chemistry and decided to switch direction to Chemistry. She then joined Professor Shannon Stahl’s lab to do research on electrochemical alcohol oxidation with TEMPO as a major catalyst. To further explore the potential application of electrochemistry, she joined Professor Song Lin’s group in Cornell and is pursuing her Ph.D there. She is one of the boring people who is still playing Pokemon Go in her spare time. She has a male rabbit, whose name is “Paper”. She was about name him “Papers”, but then figured that it’s going to be greedy and then gave up.
